The first dean of the newly created Faculty was prof. dr hab. Wojciech Żakowski (mathematician), vice-deans - doc. dr hab. Andrzej Sukiennicki and doc. dr hab. Włodzimierz Zych. The education included two specialties in the field of "Basic Problems of Technology" - applied mathematics and technical physics. The establishment of the Faculty of Technical Physics and Applied Mathematics was a significant event in the history of the University of Technology, especially for mathematicians and physicists. It was primarily conducive to the development of the research staff of both Institutes. In 1976, 297 students studied at the Faculty of FTiMS. The division into specialties took place after the second semester. Technical physics students specialized in quantum optics, solid state physics, and other fields of study as part of individual studies. The education was based on programs prepared a year earlier and approved by the ministry for the Study of Fundamental Technological Problems. The core of the created Faculty were two Institutes - the Institute of Mathematics and the Institute of Physics.

A detailed history of the departments that make up the Institute, scientific achievements, research topics, staff members are presented in the publication "100 years of Physics at the Warsaw University of Technology" published in 1999 on the occasion of the jubilee of technical education, so now only the periods of operation and the names of the directors and their directors will be given. deputies who shaped and were responsible for the directions of the Institute's development and represented the Institute in the University authorities and in the physics community.

• From September 1, 1965 to August 31, 1969, prof. dr hab. Szczepan Szczeniowski, and his deputy was doc. dr hab. Bohdan Karczewski.
• From September 1, 1969 to August 31, 1972, the director of the Institute was prof. dr hab. Bohdan Karczewski, and the deputy - doc. dr hab. Jerzy Kociński.
• From September 1, 1972 to August 31, 1977, the director of the Institute was prof. dr hab. Zbigniew Strugalski, deputies - doc. dr hab. Jerzy Kociński and doc. Dr. Wojciech Jabłoński. In the second term of office, the functions of deputies were performed by doc. dr hab. Zygmunt Zawisławski and doc. dr hab. Wacław Jakubowski.
• In the period from September 1977 to January 1978, the function of acting the director of the Institute was performed by doc. dr hab. Zygmunt Zawisławski.
• On February 1, 1978, prof. Bohdan Paszkowski, and the deputy functions were performed by doc. dr hab. Wacław Jakubowski and Dr. Witold Kruczek. In the second term of office, prof. Paszkowski as the director of the Institute of Physics, the functions of deputy directors were performed by prof. dr hab. Rajmund Trykozko and dr Ireneusz Strzałkowski.
• In December 1982, the Institute was reorganized. Uniform research and teaching units were established. The organizational structure of the Institute was as follows (according to the Institute's report for 1982):

• In the period from September 1, 1986 to August 31, 1990, prof. dr hab. Rajmund Trykozko, the deputies were held by prof. dr hab. Roland Wiśniewski and dr Ireneusz Strzałkowski.
• From September 1, 1990 to August 31, 1996, the function of the Institute's director was performed by doc. dr hab. Jan Petykiewicz, and the deputies were doc. dr hab. Stefan Ćwiok and initially M.Sc. Leszek Widomski, and then, from March 1992, doc. dr hab. Franciszek Krok.
• In the last term of the Institute of Physics, from September 1, 1996 to August 31, 1999, the director of the Institute was prof. dr hab. Franciszek Krok, and his deputies - prof. the so-called dr hab. Jerzy Garbarczyk and Dr. Mirosław Karpierz.

The following student laboratories existed within the didactic division from 1989 (according to the annual report of the Institute for 1989):

• Laboratory II (Dr. J. Grabski),
• Laboratory of Electronics (M.Sc. L. Widomski and Dr. L. Tykarski),
• Laboratory of Optical Informatics (Dr. A. Kalestyński),
• X-ray Crystallography Laboratory (Dr. B. Pura).

Z. Wieja and A. Orłowski were responsible for the Auditorium of Physics, and J. Balcerak, MA, for the lecture hall (South).

The position of the head of the PhD Study was performed by prof. dr hab. Andrzej Sukiennicki, and then dr hab. Bronisław Pura.

During the existence of the Faculty of Technical Physics and Applied Mathematics, the functions of deans and vice-deans on the part of physicists were performed by:

In the period 1976 - 1999, the Institute of Physics, as part of the Faculty of Technical Physics and Applied Mathematics, gained a significant place both at the university and on a national and foreign scale, as evidenced by the participation of the Institute's employees in the boards of domestic and foreign scientific organizations, scientific councils, and organization of physical conferences , participation in international research teams, etc.

Significant results were achieved in all scientific fields carried out at the Institute during this period, which is documented in the annual reports of the Dean and a rich list of publications in the most important physics journals. The achievements of individual departments are presented in the aforementioned publication "100 years of Physics at the Warsaw University of Technology". The didactic classes conducted by the Institute of Physics included the "Fundamentals of Physics" course at all faculties of the Polytechnic (except the Faculty of Architecture), and some of them also held monographic lectures for older years. Classes at the Technical Physics specialization of the Faculty of FTiMS constituted a significant part of the didactic activity of the Institute. In the early days of the FTiMS Faculty, lecturers from the University of Warsaw (including prof. Grzegorz Białkowski, prof. Andrzej Wróblewski, prof. Marek Demiański) were invited to some lectures, and some of the MA theses were carried out in cooperation with The Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw (as in the times of Prof. J. Wierusz-Kowalski) and the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Prof. Henryk Szymczak).

Graduates of the FTiMS Faculty are willingly employed at various faculties of the University of Technology and other universities, as well as occupying responsible positions in companies and industrial plants, foreign institutions and banks. These facts are the best confirmation of the correct education process at the Institute and at the Faculty, which is important not only for the University of Technology, but also for Polish physics.
