Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Experimental Heavy-Ion Physics within the ALICE experiment

The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role in studies of femtoscopic correlations of pions and other hadrons in the ALICE experiment.

The Heavy Ion Collision Group at the Faculty of Physics at Warsaw University of Technology participates in the ALICE at the LHC, AEgIS at AD, NA61/SHINE at SPS in CERN, STAR experiment at RHIC, and HADES and CBM at FAIR. The ALICE group at WUT consists of 9 staff members and a number of PhD, MSc, and BSc students doing their theses.

The ALICE-WUT group specializes in measurements of both femtoscopic and angular correlations of light, strange and heavy flavored hadrons.

Job Description

The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role in studies of femtoscopic correlations of pions and other hadrons in the ALICE experiment. The physics analyses target the new Run 3 data and would consist first in benchmarking with previously published data and then analyzing recent experimental runs. The work will contribute to the development of the femtoscopic analysis framework within the new paradigm called O2.

The successful candidate will be employed as a research assistant professor at the Faculty of Physics at WUT, within the project “3D identical-particle femtoscopy in O2”, funded by the POSTDOC PW programme of WUT, for an initial period of 12 months. The contract can be extended up to 24 months, provided a satisfactory outcome of the evaluation after the first 12 months.

Requirements

  • Recent PhD in nuclear or particle physics focused on correlation analysis or deposited PhD thesis ready for defence (in the second case, please provide a statement of the Doctoral school or PhD supervisor)
  • Experience in high energy heavy-ion experiments such as ALICE
  • Good knowledge of the femtoscopy technique, C++, C, ROOT and the computing infrastructure
  • Experience with experimental techniques and instrumentation of nuclear and particle physics
  • Good presentation skills
  • Good command of English

Salary: approximately 7490 PLN per month (before taxes).
