Information on the competition

Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology announces a competition for the position of ASSISTANT PROFESSOR in the following employee group research and teaching field of natural science discipline physical science in the Division of Structural Research in the Faculty of Physics at the Warsaw University of Technology, which shall be the primary place of employment as defined by the Act of 20 July 2018 - Law on Higher Education and Science hereinafter referred to as ‘the Law’.

The position requires activity in both research and teaching.

The main responsibilities of the candidate in research will be to study 2D materials and their heterostructures. The research will focus on three main subjects: (i) devices fabrication, (ii) study of the electronic properties of the materials (iii) advanced characterization of the active materials in devices using various techniques. The formal part of the job includes realizing research projects, funding acquisition, and documentation of the results in the form of scientific papers, patents, and conference presentations.

The main responsibilities of the candidate in teaching will be: (i) to give lectures, tutorials, and laboratories for physics and engineering students in the topic of general physics and solid-state physics, (ii) propose and supervise diploma theses of undergraduate and graduate students.

The aim of the research associated with the job will be to study the electronic properties of the two-dimensional materials in nanodevices and the effects related to the surface of these materials. The responsibilities include the sample preparation with devices fabrication using electron beam lithography. The materials should also be analysed using several techniques, such as Raman spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy or photoluminescence. Besides scientific research, the responsibilities include supervising diploma theses, as well as giving lectures, tutorials, and laboratories for students.

The candidate should have documented scientific achievements and be a PI in at least one research project. Experience in teaching is also required.

Candidates are required:

3)  to have a very good command of English (another foreign language)

4)  to have a scientific profile related to the specialization of the Division

5)  laboratory experience in the production of devices based on low-dimensional materials using electron beam lithography and electrical measurements of nanodevices

6)  knowledge of issues related to (i) solid state physics (ii) two-dimensional materials and methods of their characterization (iii) electronic properties of low-dimensional materials (iv) the use of two-dimensional materials and their heterostructures;

7)  ability to analyze large sets of experimental data using scripts (Python programming language preferred);

8)  experience in managing and implementing research projects of at least national scope (eg NCN, NCBR)

9)  teaching experience in Polish and English language;
