Invited Speakers

Uwe Zimmermann studied physics in Kiel, Germany, finishing with a master's degree in 1997. From 1998 to 2003 he completed his PhD at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, where his thesis focused on high-voltage diodes in silicon carbide. Uwe joined Uppsala University in 2003 as a researcher in thin-film solar cells, having already gained teaching and laboratory experience as a lab assistant during his undergraduate studies. He has been teaching in solar energy since 2005 and, since 2008, has developed courses in electronics, measurement technology, and microcontroller programming, with a strong emphasis on combining theoretical foundations with hands-on laboratory work. He has been an associate professor in electronics at Uppsala University since 2012 and has received the students’ Best Teacher Award in Engineering Physics twice, in 2010 and 2022. During the pandemic, he further developed his teaching practice with online teaching, and since 2021 he has been using Manim to create supplementary teaching material and is active in the Manim online community.

Thomas Lepetit received his Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Nantes in 2015. His research focuses on chalcogenide thin films for photovoltaic applications, including heavy alkali post-treatments of Cu(In,Ga)Se₂ absorbers and metal-halide-based in-situ treatments for low-temperature growth. He is currently an Associate Researcher at the Institut des Matériaux Jean Rouxel (IMN), involved in national and international research projects on photovoltaic materials and devices. At Polytech Nantes, he serves as Director of the integrated preparatory cycle and is responsible for interdisciplinary projects in the second year of the engineering curriculum. His educational activities emphasize project-based learning, interdisciplinarity, and the connection between fundamental science and engineering practice.
