Equipment

TA Instruments DSC Q2000 Differential Scanning Calorimeter

Specification:
  • apparatus operating in the "heat flux"
  • mode temperature range: from -180 °C to 550 °C
  • sensitivity of heat flow measurement: 0.2 μW
  • calorimetric accuracy: +/- 0.05 % Tzero (TM)
  • technology possibility to perform measurements with temperature modulation (MDSC (R))
  • possibility of direct measurement of specific heat purging gas mass flow
  • controller with the possibility of automatic gas change during the experiment
  • liquid nitrogen cooling
  • system 50-position autosampler
  • Tzero (TM) technology

The use of advanced Tzero (TM) technology allows for extremely accurate measurement of heat flow. The result of its application is a flat baseline (curvature is an order of magnitude smaller than in traditional DSC cameras), excellent sensitivity achieved by increasing the signal-to-noise ratio, extremely high resolution, the possibility of direct measurement of specific heat, faster and more accurate measurements using temperature modulation.

Method (MDSC (R))

The MDSC (R) method allows to overcome the limitations of the classic DSC method by separating the heat flux into a thermodynamic (reversible) and kinetic (irreversible) component. This task is accomplished by applying the combination of a constant heating rate with sinusoidal temperature modulation. The use of the MDSC (R) method brings about an improvement in both the sensitivity and resolution of the measurement. It also allows to isolate complex transformations or transformations with a low thermal effect, impossible to observe using the classic DSC method.
