Condensed Phase Physics Seminar

The Faculty of Physics of the Warsaw University of Technology invites to the Condensed Phase Physics Seminar, where MSc. Eng. Jakub Sitek will deliver a speech on "Growth of van der Waals heterostructures by chemical vapor deposition".
The seminar will be held on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at 12:15 pm at the Auditorium of Physics.

Summary:

Two-dimensional (2D) materials have been the subject of intensive scientific research for several years. In addition to single materials, such as graphene, hBN or MoS2, it is also possible to produce their heterostructures, known as van der Waals heterostructures. They allow to obtain the desired properties, in particular for electronic and optoelectronic applications. The problem, however, is the scalable and reproducible method of producing such heterostructures - nowadays transfer is mainly used, which is a random method and allows only small structures to be produced. For this reason, a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method is being developed that enables the production of large-scale and reproducible heterostructures with very good electronic properties.

During the seminar, students will be introduced to the basics of epitaxy, CVD growth and the features of van der Waals heterostructures. In addition, the most important achievements of scientists from the Nanostructure Research Group in the field of 2D material growth will be presented, with particular emphasis on the production of MoS2 / graphene, WS2 / graphene and MoS2 / WS2 / graphene heterostructures.
